It is with great sadness that we are announcing that we will not be holding Matt’s Miles in 2018. While we know this continues to be a highlight event for many individuals and families in the fall, over the last several years the quantity of runners had fallen off to a level that the profits raised were not enough to sustain the effort involved for this event.
Unfortunately, our costs to put on the event the way we wanted with food and beverages are higher than a regular 5k. In addition, since we have so many family groups, we did not want to raise the price higher so it was not possible for families to participate. If you put those two together, it makes it challenging to raise funds.
I (Julie) have decided that my time will be more effective working with the Cal’s organization on their existing fund raisers and growing awareness of their organization with our supporters and sponsors. We hope you continue to support us through Cal’s Angels.
Thank you for understanding. I will remember the 8 races with the greatest of memories. The smiling faces of the young kids starting and crossing the finish line has always been a great joy. I take pride in knowing we have encouraged a love of running in many budding athletes.
Thank you to Matt’s Miles Co-Sponsors

Another Successful Matt’s Miles Thanks to Your Support!
The weather was warm for a run on the prairie on Saturday, September 23 when the 8th Annual Matt’s Miles was held in Grayslake. But it did not deter our runners. The event raised $20,000 for 12 Oaks Foundation thanks to the support of our sponsors, our volunteers and of course, the participants!
Over 220 people participated in the 10K and 5K run and walk, with over 60 children running “Matt’s Mile” a one-mile race for children 13 and under. An additional 50 people joined the post-run party that included awards, music, and drinks.
Due to the success of Matt’s Miles and other fundraisers, 12 Oaks Foundation anticipates providing over 175 children with grants with a total of $65,000 in 2017. These grants provide children in families in active cancer treatment the funds to continue their extra-curricular activities, while a family member is in cancer treatment.
One of our sponsors, neighbor and volunteer, Scot Lara, filmed the races with his drone, perfectly capturing the beauty of the course and the excitement of the evening. Check it out!
Thank you again for everyone who made Matt’s Miles 2017 a great success!
