Along with her husband Steve, Julie founded 12 Oaks Foundation in memory of their son Matthew.  Julie is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Accounting. She received her Master’s in Management with a concentration in Finance from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School in 1994. Julie has worked in a variety of financial planning roles at Baxter, Dade Behring, and TAP Pharmaceuticals. Currently, Julie is the owner of Aspire Planning Group and provides financial planning and investment guidance to clients.

Steve Hupp | Co Director and Founder email

Steve Hupp has over 25 years of experience in the financial service industry, including roles within GE Capital as CFO, Controller and National Sales Manager. He currently leads business development activities for a division of GE Capital. Prior to GE Capital, Steve spent 10 years at Deloitte & Touche in senior audit positions serving financial service, not-for-profit and public sector clients.

As co-founders of Twelve Oaks Foundation, Steve and his wife Julie have established the foundation to give back to the community that aided them so generously during a time of crisis following their son Matt’s illness and tragic passing. Steve has been active in the community since moving to Grayslake in 2002, serving on the St. Gilbert Pastoral Council, working with families through the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and supporting youth sports through coaching teams for Grayslake Youth Baseball, the Grayslake Park District and St. Gilbert’s school. Currently, he serves as Co-Executive Director for Twelve Oaks Foundation and helps fund-raise for the foundation through the Hoops For Hope 3v3 basketball tournament.

David Wagner is a Managing Director at PPM America, Inc. in Chicago since 2000. He is a Portfolio Manager within PPM America’s High Yield Loan Group managing bank loan portfolios. Previously, Mr. Wagner was a team leader at First Source Financial and its predecessor, Household Commercial Financial Services. He began his career in the Corporate Finance Group of GE Capital as an investment analyst. Mr. Wagner received his M.B.A. from Kellogg Graduate School of Business at Northwestern University and a B.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Wagner manages the financial books and records for 12 Oaks Foundation and is on the 12 Oaks Foundation’s Hoops for Hope 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament committee.

Diane Walkowiak | Board Memberemail

Diane is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a B.S. in Human Resource and Entrepreneurial Management. She spent 17 years in the staffing industry as a recruiter, corporate trainer, and Regional Vice President for one of the largest staffing and placement firms. Currently, Diane is the owner of Accountants To You, a staffing and executive search firm specializing in accounting, finance and office administration.

Diane is active in the community with Reach Out and Run 5k, St. Gilbert School, and the JDRF Walk. She is on the 12 Oaks Foundation Board of Directors and assists with outreach and the Matt Mile and 5K committee.

Recipient of the inaugural 2011 Private Equity Manager Leadership Award. Trustee for the Civil War Trust and Board President of Anima, Young Singers of Greater Chicago.


Jim Fitzgerald | Board Memberemail

Jim’s professional experience has included a variety of operating roles in both for profit and not for profit healthcare organizations. He is currently the CEO of Flexan LLC, a leading provider of custom molded parts for both the hearing aid and cardiovascular industries. Prior to his current role, he served as the Chief Operating Officer for the Institute for Transfusion Medicine, the fourth largest independent blood center in the United States. His career has included several other healthcare roles, dating back to his position in sales with Baxter Healthcare. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, with a masters from the Kellogg Graduate school of management.

Jim joined the 12 Oaks Foundation Board of Directors in 2015. Jim has been a long-standing supporter of the 12 Oaks foundation, both as an organizing member of the Hoops for Hope basketball tournament, and as a regular participant in the Matt’s Mile event. Jim’s fundraising support for healthcare related causes has also included participation in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program as a two time marathon participant. His commitment to volunteering can also be observed in his time spent as both a youth sports coach, and as a prior board member for both the Grayslake Galaxy Soccer Club and Grayslake Youth Baseball Association. Jim is the proud father of 4 kids, and has been happily married for over 22 years to his wife Kelly.
